History of Ile Aux Cerfs
Ile aux Cerf’s, also known as Deer Island is a popular tourist destination located on the east coast of Mauritius island. Despite the name ‘Deer’ there are no longer any deer on the island. The name dates back when the Dutch introduced deer to Mauritius. The island is easily accessible by boat from Grand River south east and Trou d’Eau Douce beach.
The natural beauty of the island
The beach at Ile aux Cerf’s is renowned for its powdery white sand that stretches along the coastline. The sand is soft and very comfortable to walk on and it makes an ideal place for relaxation, sunbathing, building sand castles or simply stroll along the shore. Ile aux Cerf’s is a popular location for photography and capturing memorable moments.
The island is renowned for its natural beauty, including the sandy beaches, crystal-clear turquoise water and lush vegetation. One of the main attractions on the island is the Ile aux Cerf’s Golf Club, an 18-hole designed by the famous golfer Bernhard Langer. The gold course offers stunning views of the ocean and surrounding landscapes.
How to visit Ile Aux Cerfs?
Many Tour Operators offer full day trips to the island, allowing tourists to discover the beauty. These trips include transfers by speed boat or catamaran cruise and visit to the Grand River South east waterfall, a prominent waterfall formed by the grand river south east as it cascades down a series of rocky steps. The river flows the waterfalls cascade create a dramatic scene that’s especially captivating after many rainfalls when the water volume is high. It includes the opportunity of snorkelling and the chance to experience the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Embarkation at Trou d’eau douce, cruise around 20 mins in the lagoon to stop at Ile aux Cerfs island. Full Day relaxation on the sandy beaches before returning with breezes to Trou D’eau Douce. On Board, Life jackets, Barbeque lunch (veg & non veg), unlimited drinks, Mineral water & soft drinks is served.
After lunch proceed to visit the picturesque Grand River south east waterfall.
